Buchbesprechung |

Buchbesprechung |
This table for high performance polymers is presented in 4 major sections. Beginning with an introduction to definition and terminology, a historical overview is then given. This is followed by a section about synthesis and properties of the polymers, after which applications and fibers are looked at. Also, a summary of the present known fiber products is given. ln the fiber table, the state-of-the-art and the properties of several high performance polymers are presented. The outlook related to their use as fibers takes special consideration of polyaryletherketones (PEEK), polyimides (PAI), polyarylsulfones (PSU) and polyphenylene sulfide (PPS). Several fields of application have developed in which high performance polymers especially contribute, and the development of fiber fabrication techniques are still in progress. One still existing challenge is the high operating temperature which is needed for spinning a fiberout of the polymer melt.
