Increasing Test Efficiency for Automated Production Systems by Test Case Selection, Prioritization and Scheduling
Manual, experience-based test planning in production automation results in inefficiencies like time loss, redundant testing or varying test quality. This thesis increases efficiency by time-optimized test scheduling, variability-aware test case selection and test utility metrics to replicate industrial prioritization strategies and analyzes the IEC 61131-3 programming language’s impact on engineers’ testcase design. The concepts’ applicability and benefits were confirmed in different evaluations, including two field studies with mechatronic component suppliers.
