Corporate Collaboration 2.0 Maturity Model
Web 2.0 is a new culture of Internet usage; enterprise 2.0 is a new culture of web-based technology usage in enterprises that focuses on social interaction; and collaboration 2.0 is a new culture of collaboration practices within enterprises.
As organizations are increasingly facing challenges with respect to the sustained globalization (e.g., supporting global virtual teams), the rising information flood (e.g., caused by the Web 2.0 possibility that everyone can contribute content), and the demanding new employee generation of Millennials, they are forced to reconsider their collaboration practices.
With regard to design science research (DSR), this study adopts the capability maturity model for integration (CMMI) approach and develops a maturity model that supports organizations to mature in the long-term process of Web 2.0 adoption; this is achieved by cutting down the organizational transformation process into smaller pieces that are easier to manage and control (like a roadmap). In doing so, this study draws on literature of maturity models and success factors relating to collaboration 2.0 as well as on the results of eight case studies of MS SharePoint introduction projects (created from interviews with 46 German-speaking practitioners).
In order to fit different organizations, the maturity model is designed to be adapted to situations as they arise from the respective organizational context. By means of this situational adaptable collaboration 2.0 maturity model, instantiated and enhanced as a software application (macro-enabled MS Excel workbook), managers are able to assess the organizational status quo and to derive measures to progress and mature.
