Density functional theory of hard colloidal particles: From bulk to interfaces
Colloidal soft matter systems are a rich playground to develop new, intelligent materials and understand the underlying physics. For this reason, hard colloidal particles are investigated in this work using fundamental measure density functional theory.
In a bulk-phase and interface study, this theoretical framework is applied to hard-sphere systems to obtain free energies and density distributions for the fcc crystal in coexistence with the fluid phase. Moreover, systems of orientationally resolved spherocylinders and dumbbells are analyzed using the recently developed extended deconvolution fundamental measure theory.
