Zusammenfassung: | Ball screws are the most commonly used design elements in modern machine tools for converting the motion of rotatory electric drives into precise feed movements. At the same time, ball screws are currently the main cause of unforeseen machine failures in industrial applications, which significantly reduce the technical availability and productivity of machine tools.
While former research on increasing the technical availability of ball screws has focused in particular on the development of condition monitoring systems for wear detection, the present dissertation aims at actively reducing wear by means of adaptive lubrication. The dissertation starts with a presentation and evaluation of the current state of research and technology in the subject area. It then describes the design of an innovative adaptive lubrication method based on the identified deficits in the state of research and technology. As a first step, an analysis of the influences on the lubricant requirements of ball screws is carried out. Based on the prevailing interrelationships of axial load, speed, temperature and friction torque, a friction model suitable for ball screws is then developed and validated. The concept of adaptive lubrication is to compare the actual lubrication condition of ball screws with their ideal condition during operation in order to make the necessary decisions for re-lubrication. For this purpose, a suitable sensor system is developed. The methodology and the sensor system developed for adaptive lubrication of ball screws are finally validated in laboratory tests. This proves its ability to increase resource efficiency and technical availability compared to conventional lubrication methods. |
