Zusammenfassung: | Sustainability of building products and demands of the consumers for renewable products have become important issues in the last decade. Noticeably the demands for bio-based building products have increased all over the world. These products had a very long history in construction, although their combustibility was the main reason why bio-based building materials were banned from many applications. Even today, the use of combustible building products are still very limited and great concerns by authorities on the use of bio-based construction materials in modern buildings still exist. In addition, existing building regulations for fire safety in Europe show a wide variation of concepts and requirements. Both, existing concerns and different requirements among European countries cause major barriers in the use of bio-based building materials. To tackle this problem on an European level COST Action FP 1404, “Fire Safe Use of Bio-based Building Products” was established to provide a common understanding about the fire safe use of bio-based building products and a more harmonized, stronger market for these products. This book contains the proceedings of the first European Workshop “Fire Safety of Green Buildings” of COST Action FP1404 including all extended abstracts of the 3 keynote speakers, 17 oral presentations and 20 posters. It also summarizes the state of the art, with recent developments in fire safety of bio-based building products and construction, and also covers the three technical working groups (WG) of the COST Action FP 1404: - WG 1: Contribution of bio-based materials to the fire development - WG 2: Structural elements made of bio-based building materials and detailing - WG 3: Regulations for fire safety of bio-based building materials Following topics have been covered within the book: - material properties of bio-based materials under elevated temperature conditions, - modification and assessment methods for bio-based materials, - contribution of bio-based materials to fire scenarios, - overall structural fire behaviour under standard and natural fire conditions, - fire safe detailing and execution, - risk methods and safety concepts, - fire statistics and intervention, - application of structural fire engineering and - best practice examples. |
